I'm Nicky Boyce and I was born in England and now live in Allenwood
South, in the Republic of Ireland,
with husband Andy and eight rescued cats.
I am a Chartered Structural Engineer, having read Engineering at
the University of Bradford, West Yorkshire.
After a 23 year career in Engineering,
I was
unexpectedly made
redundant and so
I decided to retire to pursue something less stressful.
Art was something I've enjoyed as a hobby and initially I
attended adult education classes in Clane under the instruction of Terry
Dunne.
I studied
art at
VTOS, in
Athy
under the instruction of
Paschal
Fitzpatrick.
I am also a
member of the artist's group Cruthú, based at Russborough House in Co.
Wicklow. My art can be viewed in the artisan studios there.
My stiched art and crochet can viewed on my Etsy
page
SpecialThingsIreland
My
ambition is to set up a studio to teach adults.
I strongly believe that there is an artistic talent in
everyone and it's
just a case of bringing it out .
My favourite mediums are soft pastel and watercolour and my
favourite
subjects are animal and bird portraiture in which I have completed a
number of commissions. The
greatest challenge is to capture the character of the animal.
I also practise the art of Chinese Brush Painting, on both rice paper
(xuan) and silk. I have
attended classes at West Dean collage in Sussex, under the tuition
of Maggie Cross.
I have
won a number of competitions and have exhibited in numerous exhibitions. I have works
hung publicly and privately both here and abroad.
The most important thing about art is it should be fun.
